Pinball Racing is a handmade multimedia board game. It offers an innovative form of gameplay. The pace of the game is fast and the feedback from the game is rich, multidimensional and instant. The creative way of customizing the game makes Pinball Racing suitable for people of all age groups.

Inspiration

The whole game is inspired by the Pacman game and Pinball Space Cadet, I want to create a physical game based on maze element, pinball and physical prototypes.

First Verison Prototypes

I made the first version of prototype in order to test the maze I designed. I started with trying to decide how did the maze look like, so I had these two kinds of mazes.

After first round of player testing, there were three issues pop up:

1) it was too heavy to be held.

2) it was difficult to decide how the maze looked like since the level of difficulty was better to be adjustable depended on different users.

3) it was not clear about the purpose of the game.

DIY MAZE!

In order to meet the needs for everyone, I designed elements for users to DIY their own maze. The users can decide how difficult their maze is.

All the DIY pieces are made by laser cut.

TOUCH UP
The real challenge was that I had to make all the parts alone (nearly 300 in total ......)

The making process for
the main board

The main board consists of two 1/4" MDF boards which have been laser cut with the holes and instructions for the game sensors.

The holes are for the connection between maze elements and the main board.

Now it's time for the sensors part! (Arduino prototype)
